The third part of our brief was to find a few examples for each of the websites a client had asked us to design:
1. Dead Sea Squirrels – an upcoming indie rock band from Sheffield
- Blur
I really like the music video playing in the background of the site. - The Carnabys
It has a very simple but effective homepage. - Superfood
Love the retro and unique feel to the site.
All three have simple and easy navigation to their latest news, their tour dates, their music and their galleries. Using these three as inspiration, I would include a music player widget (not autoplay so that the user can choose whether they want to listen or not), simple navigation bar to the main sections, and a simple/clean-looking interface.
2. Beech Farm – a homely bed and breakfast in Cornwall
- High Gitcombe
Professional-looking site with great images - No. 20
Use of tone and language - Pebbles Bed and Breakfast
Good use of theme running throughout
All three sites looked professional and well-maintained with high-quality images of the rooms, the facilties, and the surrounding areas. I like that they offered a section about what activities were available and important information about the rates of rooms was easy to navigate to.
3. Primary Health – a private healthcare company based in London.
- Bupa
Clear and easy navigation - The London Clinic
Clean and simple interface - The Smart Clinics
Content divided up well
The content in all these sites were displayed and categorised well, so that users can easily see where they need to go for specific information. The colours used were also neutral and calming.
